UNITED IGBO ELDERS CONGRESS WORLDWIDE (UNIEC): A MOVEMENT OF NON-PARTISAN, NON-PROFIT ELDER-STATESMEN


The United Igbo Elders Congress Worldwide (UNIEC) wishes to inform the general public, stakeholders, and all well-meaning Nigerians that it is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit, and non-religious movement of Igbo Elder-statesmen.


UNIEC is committed to the advancement of the Igbo nation within the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria. As Elders, we stand for wisdom, moderation, dialogue, and constructive engagement in addressing issues that affect our people and the wider Nigerian society.


We wish to emphasize that our membership cuts across various political affiliations and religious backgrounds. For this reason, UNIEC does not, as a body, endorse or attack any political party, ethnic group, or religion. Instead, we provide a platform where respected voices of experience can contribute to nation-building, unity, justice, and peace.


Our vision is rooted in fostering inclusivity, mutual respect, and a spirit of brotherhood among Ndigbo and between Ndigbo and other Nigerians. We believe that the path to progress is dialogue, not division; understanding, not antagonism.

UNIEC therefore calls on all Igbo sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora, as well as our fellow Nigerians, to see us as a moral compass and voice of reason in the ongoing journey of repositioning our people and strengthening our nation.

  Statement from the United Igbo Elders Congress Worldwide e United Igbo Elders Congress Worldwide condemns—unequivocally and in the strongest terms—the barbaric and brutal attack carried out by armed gunmen on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Kwara State, on the night of November 18, 2025. This horrific incident, in which innocent Christians gathered in a vigil were savagely attacked, is an affront to every principle of humanity, decency, and civilized society. Reports indicate that the attackers opened fire on worshippers, killing at least three congregants and abducting several others, including the pastor. This tragedy shakes the conscience, not only because of the loss of innocent lives, but also because of the chilling nature of the attack.
