PRESS RELEASE UNIEC REJECTS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY’S APPROVAL FOR CREATION OF NEW STATES — Cites Injustices, Seeks Renaming Of North Central To Middle Belt  LAGOS, NIGERIA — October 27, 2025: The United Igbo Elders Congress Worldwide (UNIEC) has faulted and rejected the National Assembly’s approval for the creation of one new state in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, describing the move as imbalanced, inequitable, and unjust to the South East region. The decision to create six new states, reached at a two-day retreat in Lagos jointly chaired by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is being criticized by UNIEC as another missed opportunity to correct Nigeria’s long-standing structural inequities. Under the approved arrangement, the South East — currently with five (5) states — would gain one additional state, making six (6) in total, while the North West would move from seven (7...

UNIEC, as the apex body representing the collective conscience and voice of Igbo elders across the globe, strongly condemns these acts of targeted economic aggression against innocent citizens whose only “crime” is their hard work, enterprise, and visible contribution to the socio-economic development of Lagos and Nigeria at large. For decades, the Igbo people have been integral to the growth and transformation of Lagos into a global megacity. From commerce to construction, from manufacturing to technology, the Igbo entrepreneurial spirit has helped shape...

Truth About Igbos - Ayo Fayose

I laugh at the ignorance of those who say the Igbos have low population. This is what Ekiti State's former governor Ayo Fayose said about the Igbos. *********** 💥 "I love Igbos but I have to tell them the truth because I love them. It is now a law to transmit votes electronically, that means rigging of elections has been reduced drastically. Igbos are only tribe that have 99% of voters in the South East and second highest voters in other regions in Nigeria. In the South West, after Yoruba votes, Igbo votes come second. Lagos has the highest number of voters in Nigeria and Igbos are competing with Yorubas in voting power in Lagos. In the South South, we have indigenous Igbos in the South South and all the major cities in the South South are occupied by Igbos. Go to Port Harcourt you will understand what I mean. In the North Central, go to Jos and all the state capital in the North Central, Igbos are the second largest population after the indigenous people. In the North West,...
